Serving as God’s Family: Sharing His Love, Telling His Story

SERVING AS GOD’S FAMILY

As sinners, imperfect people, we separated ourselves from the God who created us and the world. God, however, did not give up on us. Instead, He chose to restore our relationship with Him by sending His Son Jesus Christ into the world.  Through faith in Jesus we are forgiven of our sins and reconciled to God.  Through the waters of Holy Baptism  God reaches out to us and claims us as His children. As His family we are privileged to serve him and one another in love.

SHARING HIS LOVE

In Baptism, we are connected to Christ both in His death and His resurrection (Romans 6). As Jesus died on the cross, so our old sinful self dies, and as God the Father raised Him from the dead, so He raises us to new, everlasting life with Him now and in heaven. The sacrifice Christ made for us was the ultimate display of love (John 15:13).  As that love lives in us through faith we show the fruits of that love daily in our words and by what we do.

TELLING HIS STORY

Everything that we are and all that we have is a gift of God. Through Him, we were created and given life. And also through Him, our sins are forgiven and He gives us the gift and blessing of everlasting life. This good news is ours to share. We tell it to one another and we leave it as our legacy for the next generation.  We share the message of God’s love and salvation with those around us: our neighbors, relatives, friends, coworkers, and even those we do not know. God’s love is for all people.  He desires that all would come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

St. John’s is a member of the Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod, an organization of over 6,000 congregations in the United States who work together to share the love of God in our communities, our country and around the world. St. John’s Lutheran Church is a community of people brought together by the Word of God. We believe that the infallible and inerrant Word of God is the Lord’s great gift to us, for it reveals to us the mind and heart of God. We rejoice in the greatest revelation of that Word–Jesus Christ, true God and true man, come into the world to love us and make us the children of God, through His death and resurrection.

The members of St. John’s are not perfect people, but we are people who have been forgiven through the blood of Jesus Christ. Now His Word lives in us and empowers us to live a life of love for one another. We most sincerely invite you to join us as we learn, live, share and celebrate God’s love for us in Jesus Christ, His Son!
