–The Chili Cook-off is a contest all members are invited to enter. Simply bring a crock-pot of your favorite chili. Those who attend will sample the entries and vote on their favorite. Prizes (admittedly, small prizes) will be awarded for first, second and third place. Sign-up to enter on the sheet on the usher’s stand in the narthex or contact the church office.
— The Bean Bag Tournament is designed to be fun. People, over the age of 12, simply sign-up that day and then get randomly paired with other members to play a few games. Those who win the most games get put in a “winner’s bracket” to play for first and second place prizes. We will also have activities and a board just for kids 12 years old and under.
— Lunch will also be served. Since attendees will already be sampling chili, the Christian Service Committee will also serve sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips, carrots, ice cream cups and beverage. There is no charge for the meal.
—Finally, we are making this a fundraiser for New Life Family Services, a pro-life organization that provides pregnancy and adoption services as well as counseling services for those who have had an abortion. New Life Family Service’s mission statement reads in part: Through practical and spiritual counsel, we provide education and support with the hope each client will make a life-affirming decision for their unborn child.
In Rochester, New Life Family Services and its First Care Pregnancy Center are located at 40 16th Street SE (across from the county fairgrounds). Check out their website at: https://nlfs.org/.
The freewill donation received on Sunday, January 26 will be forwarded to the organization as one check from St. John’s. Accordingly, make your check payable to St. John’s.
