On the day your child was baptized, the congregation and their godparents pledged to help you raise your child in the faith. To that end we offer a variety of ministries to help impart the truth of God’s word to your child. Confirmation is one of those opportunities in which students, generally in 6th, 7th and 8th grades, spend time each week growing in God’s grace under the instruction of one of our pastors, in partnership with you.
St. John’s offers a three-year confirmation program with classes meeting in September through May.
The first year students study God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the Holy Bible. Starting with creation and continuing through the Pentecost event, the students use a book titled “According to Plan” to rejoice in the fact that they are included in God’s wondrous plan. Pastor Steve is the primary teacher for this class.
The second and third year students learn Lutheran theology in greater depth by studying major Christian doctrines over a two-year course of instruction. The class uses Luther’s Small Catechism and a variety of other materials to study the Commandments, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Holy Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and Confession. Pastor Fritsch is the primary teacher.
Both classes meet on Wednesdays during the school year from 6 to 7:30pm. Changes in the schedule are made during Advent and Lent.
