Confirmation

When children are baptized, the congregation makes a commitment to parents to help raise their children in the Christian faith.  To that end we offer a variety of ministries to help impart the truth of God’s word to children. Confirmation is one of those opportunities in which students, generally in 6th, 7th and 8th grades, spend time each week growing in God’s grace under the instruction of one of our pastors, in partnership with parents.

St. John’s offers a three-year confirmation program with classes meeting, generally, September through May.

The first year students study God’s plan of salvation as revealed in the Holy Bible. Starting with creation and continuing through the Pentecost event, the students rejoice in the fact that they are included in God’s wondrous plan. That plan included Adam, Noah, Abraham, Joseph, David, the prophets and so many more, all leading up to Jesus himself.  This plan continues today as we wait for the second coming of the Lord.

Parents who are interested in enrolling their 6th grade child in such a class are encouraged to speak with Pastor Justin.

The second and third year students (generally 7th and 8th grade) learn Lutheran theology in greater depth by studying major Christian doctrines over a two-year course of instruction. The class uses Luther’s Small Catechism and a variety of other materials to study the Commandments, the Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, Holy Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and Confession.

Again, parents who are interested in enrolling their children in such a class are asked to speak with Pastor Justin.
